DAB+ operates on VHF Band III (174–240 MHz). Those radio waves are completely blocked by concrete, steel and the earth surrounding a tunnel or underground car park. The moment a vehicle enters a tunnel, the signal is gone.
For road users, that's more than inconvenience. In emergencies — a fire, a collision, a traffic jam — traffic centres and emergency services must be able to reach people inside the tunnel. Without an active installation, that's impossible.
The same applies to metro stations, deep underground car parks and large covered industrial sites: every space without line-of-sight to an outdoor antenna needs an active distribution system.

Site survey & RF analysis
We measure the DAB+ signal at the tunnel entrance and map the propagation characteristics of the space.
Leaky feeder or antenna line
A radiating coaxial cable along the full tunnel length spreads the signal continuously and uniformly — no dead zones.
SFN-synchronised repeater
The repeater is GPS-synchronised with the national DAB+ network to avoid interference and preserve single frequency network integrity.
Professional installation
Our engineers install the system to technical standards and in coordination with existing infrastructure (ASTRID, GSM).
Coverage measurement & handover
After installation we carry out a validated coverage measurement over the full length and provide a measurement report.
Maintenance & monitoring

More than comfort — a safety system
DAB+ in tunnels allows traffic centres to send targeted emergency messages to road users currently inside the tunnel — as an audio broadcast and as a visual warning on the infotainment screen.
In Flanders, SPIE Belgium is installing DAB+ in all Flemish road tunnels on behalf of the AWV road agency. Mercuron delivers the same expertise for private infrastructure, car parks and industrial sites.

The traffic centre reaches only the drivers in the affected tunnel — not the entire network.
Visual warnings
DAB+ metadata displays messages on the screen of modern vehicles via MOT/DLS.
