
No signal isn't an inconvenience. It's a safety risk.

We accept poor indoor coverage as a minor inconvenience. A message that leaves late, a call that drops in the lift, that single bar that just won't grow. Annoying, but harmless. Right?
In most places, that's true. But there are places where no signal is not annoying — where it directly affects safety, health and peace of mind. And those are exactly the places where people least expect it.
1. The ER you can't call
Picture this: a loved one has been admitted to the emergency department. You're in the waiting room, or just in the corridor outside, and you want to call family. Or you're the one being called with news. And then: nothing. One bar, or none. The message won't send. The call drops.
In terms of coverage, hospitals are often the most difficult buildings that exist. Thick concrete walls, lead shielding around radiology, underground floors, metal structures — everything that makes a building safe and sterile also blocks radio waves. In the very place where emotions run highest and information needs to flow fastest, communication falls silent.
In an emergency department, a missed call isn't a missed call. It's a family member saying goodbye too late, a doctor who can't be reached, a decision left waiting.
And it goes beyond patients and visitors. Hospital staff and emergency services also rely on reliable communication indoors. 2. The underground car park where no one can hear you
Go down to level -2 of any underground car park and look at your phone. Chances are your signal has vanished. During the day you don't think about it. In the evening, alone, by your car in an empty concrete space, it feels entirely different.
Underground car parks are the very definition of a Faraday cage: concrete and steel all around, not a single line to the outside. For residents of apartment buildings, that means, concretely:
• You can't reach anyone if you feel unsafe.
• You can't call for help in the event of an accident, a broken-down car or a medical problem.
• An emergency call — 112 — simply won't get out.
That last point is the one most people underestimate. A car park without signal is a place where the lifeline has been cut. For large buildings — offices, shopping centres, hospitals, hotels — exactly the same applies, and hundreds of people you'll never meet pass through every day.
The feeling of insecurity doesn't come from the dark or the emptiness. It comes the moment you realise: if something happens now, I can't reach anyone.
3. Your EV sitting there in silence
A new reason to take indoor coverage seriously has emerged, and it's probably parked in your car park right now.
Electric vehicles are increasingly connected. They send charging status to your app, receive updates, schedule charging sessions during off-peak hours, and alert you when the battery is full. All of those functions rely on one thing: a mobile connection. And charging points are almost always located where the signal is worst — underground.
In practice, this is what you see:
• Your EV charges, but the 'fully charged' notification never reaches you — so your car needlessly occupies a charging spot, sometimes at a cost per minute.
• Smart charging during cheap off-peak hours fails because the car doesn't receive its instructions.
• The charger itself doesn't communicate with the management system: no billing, no monitoring, no fault reporting.
For an apartment building or company car park with a growing number of charging points, that's no small detail. It's the difference between a charging infrastructure that manages itself and one that has to be followed up manually every day.
The common thread: signal is infrastructure, not an afterthought
Three very different situations — a hospital corridor, a parking basement, a charging point — with exactly the same cause. Modern buildings are ever better insulated, more compact and more heavily constructed. Excellent for energy and stability. Disastrous for radio waves.
The solution isn't 'hoping for better coverage from the operator'. Outside, the signal may be perfect; the problem is in the building. What works is a professional indoor system that actively brings the signal into every corner — including level -2, including the plant room, including the spot where your EV is parked.
